Integrated Mobile Crisis Response Team (IMCRT) - For children, youth, and families in crisis

Child and youth mental health clinicians work alongside adult mental health clinicians, social workers, nurses, and plain-clothes police officers to provide a rapid, mobile, community-based response to children, youth, and families in crisis. For southern Vancouver Island.
The Integrated Mobile Crisis Response Team (IMCRT) serves individuals and families in situational or psychiatric crisis and where there is imminent risk to self or others. IMCRT is an interdisciplinary team that can include nurses, counsellors, child and youth counsellors and police. They serve all ages and provide consultation, mobile response, crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment, referral and short-term follow-up. The team is available every day of the year from 1pm until midnight. Public access is through the crisis line 1-888-494-3888. Provides mobile crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization. Some examples include:
  • Acute Depression
  • Psychosis (sometimes associated with Schizophrenia)
  • Mania (usually related to a Bipolar Affective Disorder)
  • Suicide Risk
  • Bizarre/Uncharacteristic Behaviours
  • Acute distress related to other psychiatric conditions
  • Aggression/Conduct problems with children
  • Post Traumatic Stress
  • Severely debilitating Anxiety


Locations Served: The program serves southern Vancouver Island as far as Sooke/Port Renfrew, the South Malahat, and the Peninsula, and provides phone consultation to the Gulf Islands. There is an emergency mental health team on Salt Spring Island which is accessible through IMCRT.

Children, youth, and families can access this service by calling the Vancouver Island Crisis Line.
Physicians and other mental health professionals may access the team directly through a confidential pager number.
