Anscomb Outpatient Services - Child and Youth Treatment for Significant Psychiatric Symptoms

Evaluation and treatment planning for children and youth up to age 18 with significant emotional, behavioural, psychological, and psychiatric symptoms.
The Anscomb Program serves all Island Health area children, youth, and families with appointments occurring on site at the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health for the following services:

Mood Anxiety and Psychosis Team (MAP)
Provides specialized services for children and youth up to and including age 18, who are having significant challenges in their daily functioning due to complex and persistent mood, anxiety and/or psychotic conditions related to major psychiatric disorders. Children and youth may be referred if experiencing:
  • Depression
  • Bipolar / mania
  • Obsessions and compulsions
  • Generalized anxiety
  • Panic
  • Effects of post-traumatic stress
  • Complex trauma
  • Psychosis
  • Schizophrenia
Neurodevelopment Team
Provides specialized services for children and youth up to and including age 18, are having significant challenges in their daily functioning due to complex mental health and behavioural challenges secondary to neurodevelopmental impairments. Children and youth may be referred if they are experiencing mental health challenges including:
  • Autism Spectrum
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Other related genetically based impairments
Referral Required
  • For the South Island (Sooke, Westshore & Greater Victoria): Referrals to the Anscomb program are only accepted from Mental Health Clinicians through the Ministry of Child & Family Development - Child & Youth Health Clinics.
  • For Duncan, Central & North Island: Referrals are accepted from physicians and mental health clinicians. It is recommended that children/youth be connected with their local Mental Health services prior to a referral to Anscomb.
