A 6 week program that helps children with Down Syndrome transition to kindergarten.
Kinder Kick-Off helps children with Down syndrome age 3-5 years and their parents/caregivers prepare for the transition into kindergarten. This program is a collaborative effort between the DSRF program team which includes teachers, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavioral consultants, and mental wellness experts. The program will run for 6 weeks, on Tuesdays (plus one Thursday), and will take place online. This program will focus on the following:
- Personal: supporting expressive communication, toilet training in school, self-regulation, play skills, ability to navigate classroom environment, following instructions (visual/verbal)
- Social: communication, behaviour skills, transitions
- Intellectual: early literacy skills, pre-printing, concepts (colors/shapes/numbers)
